Sorting out the research results on children in mining areas and relevant educational practices in Japan helps to clarify the impacts generated by coal mine policies and the trends of the coal mining industry. The research results are mainly reflected in five aspects: First, through analysis, this paper has clarified that the coal mining rationalization plan, which was gradually promoted from the 1950s, had a negative impact on children in mining areas and their education. Second, the adverse impact of the plan on the children of small and medium coal mine workers is particularly evident. Third, the relevant research from the 1950s to the early 1960s mainly focused on the mining areas in Fukuoka Prefecture, which had a large number of small and medium coal mines and was affected by coal policies. Fourth, educators sincerely treated the children in mining areas and their parents, and tried to solve their various difficulties from an educational perspective with a positive attitude. Fifth, the views of many researchers can provide references for solving research topics that are still of great significance to this day, such as whether teachers’ understanding of children will change due to their different class origins.
