Industrial heritage carries rich national and collective memories. In Germany’s Ruhr area, the worker groups have played a significant role in local economic and social transformation. In the context of industrial restructuring and structural transformation, how the worker groups in these regions reposition their identities has become a critical issue that requires resolution. Exploring the narrative construction of industrial heritage through a memory theory framework aids to reveal how worker groups can reconstruct their identities through memory and heritage revitalization.
