France’s Role in the EU and Its Impact

France has always sought its own strength in actively promoting European development and emphasized its leadership in the European integration, playing a unique leadership role in many aspects, such as EU construction, institutional reforms and policy adjustment, etc. After the Brexit, along with the continued evolution of the international configuration, France’s role and influence within the EU has been further enhanced. At present, France is the advocate and leader of European sovereignty and strategic autonomy, the helmsman of European security and defense construction, the leader of European climate and energy policy transformation, and the active promoter of European economic and fiscal policy reforms, but its leadership and the exertion of its influence are also confronted with double pressure from both inside and outside the EU.
